If you’ve still not booked to fly to Lisbon for United’s match against Benfica on September 15, it’s not too late to get a good deal.
Here are the best options currently available for flights to Portugal on the day of the game and the day before, returning the day after.
Options include Porto – a two-hour 47-minute train journey away and Faro – a three-hour train journey away.
Both train journeys will cost about £40 return.
There are also direct flights to Lisbon, plus some indirect flights via Madrid.
Before booking, you should factor in:
- the cost of reaching the UK airport
- the money you spend at airports waiting for indirect flights
- train cost
- the inconvenience of flying very early in the morning or very late at night
- the fact that there are very few hotel places remaining in Lisbon on the week of the game and the rooms remaining cost a small fortune
The return flights were chosen having taken consideration for the time it is possible to get from Lisbon to Porto and Faro by train according to the timetable.

On day of the game there is an earlier flight on Easyjet from Luton to Lisbon – 8.35am and £25 more than option 6 on Vitty’s list but woudl leave more time for ticket collection etc, especially as Portugal is same time zone as UK so game is at 7.45 still.
I didn’t go to any euro aways last year, do you think i will still get a ticket though?
Matt – yes.
Yess Matt, the allocation for this is plenty, I’d be amazed if anyone is rejected.
If you are rejected, you will still end up being allocated one in after others have returned theirs etc.
I dont suppose anyone is doing this flight the day of the game and driving to lisbon, Liverpool to Faro on Ryanair 07:00 – 10:00 – £36, and has to spaces in the car.
Or dont suppose you know anyone who is driving it with space, the train times have well done us over and its looking like were getting a coach.
Also does anyone know of anyone driving back to faro for the early flights out and would mind me and a mate helping with the cost of petrol and obviously on the way there as well
Cheers
last time we played benfica i went without a ticket payed in their section and just said to a steward i was a utd fan and they let me into our section no questions asked
Is anyone having difficulties in finding accommodation in Lisbon?
If so, try lisboa camping and bungalows. Its a holiday camp 1.6 miles from the ground. They have 2 bed wooden lodges at a cost of approx £100 for 2 nights and sleep up to six
loads of cheap hostels in around rossio square, probaly about 15 quid a night
Vitty,
Will you do a similar list of flight possibilities for Bucharest?
