Liverpool travel and pub guide

Liverpool
Anfield, Merseyside
FA Cup fourth round
Saturday January 28, 12:45

Tickets
United have got 5,174 tickets in the Anfield Road end lower tier behind the goal.

They cost £49 for adults, £36 for over 65s and £15 for under 16s.

The application deadline has passed and all tickets have been sold.

The Anfield Road ends holds 6,391 seats.

Liverpool City Council’s ground safety advisory group ordered Liverpool to remove two seats from each end of all blocks.

There are 35 rows in the stand, so that’s 980 seats.

A few others seats have been removed so mesh can be placed over seats to segregate home and away fans close to the Centenery Stand.

The advisory group have insisted they will be monitoring fans’ behaviour in the away end to determine what United’s allocation will be in the Premier League at Anfield next season.

Standing is not an issue, but we would ask all fans to keep the gangways clear for the good of our club and your fellow reds.

Weather
This section will be updated five days before the game

TV
ITV1 will show the match live.

Travel

To reach the ground, keep walking up, under the railway line and onto Arkles Lane and then right onto Anfield Road.

Parking around there will also give you an easy way out of Liverpool at full time, as you can turn onto the A5058, which leads directly onto the M62.

Train – £8
On the day, a return will cost £11.10.

If you buy in advance, leaving at 10:37 and returning at 18:52, you will save £3.10.

Pubs
It probably goes without saying that you won’t get in anywhere with colours. But if you’re subtle, you can grab a pre-match pint at the following.

The Head of Steam
, (pictured right) at 7 Lime Street (next door to the train station) is owned by a firm of the same name that runs eight pubs across the country.

Run by Rob McNeil, this pub is the largest one in Liverpool and is decorated with railway memorabilia.

It used to be the London and Northwest Railway’s best hotel and is now a Grade 2 listed building.

It’s a proper drinker’s pub, with four bars selling seven real ales at any one time. It also sells Stella Artois, San Miguel, Grolsch, Carling and even Timmermans Strawberry Beer.

The only drawback is it doesn’t open until noon on Saturdays, but there’s a taxi rank outside to get you up to the ground in 10 minutes.

Further up Lime Street, at number 43, is the Crown pub (pictured left)

The cheapest pint it offers is Marstons EPA for £1.69.

Thought to have opened in 1859, it’s a traditional pub which spoils itself with the number of food ads in the windows.

But you won’t get any mither from locals in here as long as you don’t act up.

It opens at noon and, again, has a taxi rank outside.

Coopers
in Lime Street Station is also alright. Go up the stairs just to the side of Burger King. It’s pricey but quiet.

Next to the station taxi rank is another quiet pub called MA Egertons on Pudsey Street.

Or across the road from the station on Great Charlotte Street, is a decent Wetherspoons pub called the Richard John Blackler.

And not too far away in St John’s Square is Doctor Duncans, a pretty big pub with a decent range of beer on tap and a relaxed atmosphere.

  • robjh

what train are guys getting from manchester /salford?

  • Fred

10:01 from Manchester, think most of the trains around that time will be jammed with Reds

  • Ian P

Hi, i brought my tickets from a third party due to being unsuccesful in the ballot. They have arrived today and look genuine, however there is no persons name on them? Should they have? apart from that they are a black and white design, and habe block N in capitals at the bottom. Would reaaly appreciate the help, thanks

  • Amar

yeah i was thinking the same, the 10.01

  • robson7

the new returns poilcy is a fucking joke. seeems like a closed shop to me with these outbound calls. returns were the only chance us standard pot sth had of geting an away tix.

  • Paul

MUST statement says no beer in United end and as expected fans to be locked in for at least 15 minutes at the end, police escort back to Lime street is Expected to be Voluntary.

  • Kev

Paul what do you mean by escort back being voluntary?!

  • Oli

Ian, away tickets never have names on. Why would they and how would that even be possible as i wouldn’t want LFC having my details.

Kevin, escorts are pretty much voluntary for our safety rather than a legal requirement to join. Is always easy to avoid them if you want.

  • Kev

Cheers oli I’m with you so there will be a escort back to lime street if you decide to take it?! Ended up down some nasty backstreet in oct walking back ha!

  • Alex

Wondering what time everyones getting the train ? and is that escort a definate ?

  • Adam

if theres no beer in the ground is everyone finding a pub round lime street? will there be an escort from the station to the ground before the game?

  • Pob

    Armani, I’ve FB’d you.

  • Craig

first time going away to liverpool. what is the best pub to drink in? i.e where all the reds (mancs) go?

  • Ian P

Thanks for clearing thst up Oli, one more question does everyones ticket have a *bulk at the bottom? wondering why it would say that?

    Really appreciate the help, thanks

  • Oli

Ian, yes they do. And the reason they say that is because a bulk load of tickets are sent from LFC to distribute.
